5 ways the pandemic improved my teaching in fitness classes

Zoom was fun to learn until the deep fatigue set in. By April 2021, I was sick of setting up my camera in my living room. Yet I was also scared of heading back to in-person classes. Fully vaccinated and surrounded by similarly vaxed folk, I’m over many of those initial fears. And I notice differences from the “beforetimes” compared to now:

  1. People have power. I feel a charge from each individual in front of me sharing my space with me. It feels really healthy to receive their presence, instead of their pixelated images.

  2. I giggle more. Maybe I feel more gratitude than before, but I just feel so good dancing and working out with actual people.

  3. Music sounds so much better. Wow! When did Bruno Mars sound this good from my device? Listening to “Uptown Funk” is now a religious experience.

  4. Fewer technical glitches means being present. With the time we had in quarantine, I feel much more able to cope with surprises. Yet, I’m so grateful I don’t have to say, “You’re muted” every five minutes.

  5. Small spaces feel palatial. Compared to the few feet within my camera zone, I feel so free I might just float away.
